Ankkalampi day care center in Jämsä, Finland, brings two day care centers together under one roof through a 10-year rental agreement with Parmaco. The dynamic building provides space for early childhood education today while giving the city flexibility to respond to changing needs in the future. The project was also featured in a news article by Yle, Finland’s public service broadcaster, which explored municipalities’ growing interest in flexible rental buildings.

Flexible day care space for changing needs
When planning its new day care center, Jämsä looked beyond its immediate space needs. With the number of children declining, the city wanted to retain the flexibility to modify its facilities in the future.
Rather than renovating the existing premises or investing in a conventional new building, the city chose a 10-year rental agreement with Parmaco. The dynamic building can be scaled up or down by adding or removing modules, or relocated if needed.
For Jämsä, Parmaco’s flexible rental model offers a way to meet today’s needs without committing to owning a building that may no longer be needed in the future. The solution supports long-term planning while allowing the city to respond to changes in demand for early childhood education.
Two day care centers under one roof
Ankkalampi brought together the operations of Palomäki and Viiskulma day care centers, which closed in June 2026. Most of the staff also moved from these centers to the new building.
In addition to spaces for four groups of children, the day care center has a kitchen and an activity hall for play and physical activity. Meals are served in each group’s own space.
